"Zeus's Hello" by Nicholas Brennan
The thunder and lightning came
Rolling over the horizon. The clouds
Glowed red from the distant city and
Flashed long before it was heard.
Cigarette after cigarette scorched my
Lungs as I sat smoking and gazing from
That grassy knoll somewhere in Texas.
As the storm drew down, I saw clouds touch
The ground with white, spindly fingers
Zigging and zagging, streaks of yellow
Flashed across the sky. I observed
Zeus throwing pieces of the heavens at
Mortals. The rain, promised to the
Ground, was on its way. As the last
Cigarette burned in my mouth, I
Decided to move to safety. Flashes and
Crashes shook my room as I gaze out.
