"You" by Emma Briseno
On the fuzz of a peach
that claws at my throat,
I look for you.
In search for the words you spoke
so kindly to me.
In the tenderness of cotton
sheets we once shared,
I look for you.
I fold myself within them, uncomforted.
Knowing it is the closest we will be.
In a pressed plate of reflective glass,
I look for you.
In search of your eyes once bright
that hung like moons
above a freckled constellation.
And just as our eyes meet
the brightness in yours
is eclipsed
by the loss of you,
in mine.
