"Sometimes Feelings" by Halle Dana
Sometimes I get so excited,
I feel like I could eat a lightbulb.
I’ve sat with dullness in my belly,
Yet some things still jolt me:
Whizz like lightning by my ear.
Sometimes I breathe in such giddiness,
My body shimmers, heat from the ground.
Hot spices; the richness of chili and lime,
My finger kisses the mist on the glass.
The sound of the bottle opener, the hiss.
Sometimes I want to feel safe,
I have made up my blanket cocoon.
It feels like if I catch all this energy,
Trap it in a small glass jar,
I could write anthems til daybreak.
