"It drowned out the noise" by Amanda Pape
A cold wind blows over the
tundra of vacant parking lots
The night chokes on stillness
and we bend beneath the weight
of the wasteland
We watch the sun abandon us
our desperate eyes
grasping on the fragments of twilight
For it’s return is a bargain
and so is everything else
When the comatose streets are absolute
and the silence falls in rhythm
Death walks—
even in daylight
