"Growth" by Nicholas Brennan
A little more every day.
Like a tree, the rings show
Growth.
Someday I will have an adventure,
Crossing America one mile
At a time.
The early nights make growth slow.
Now is time for hibernation like
The bear.
Safe from the wind and rain,
Warm in my soft bed. I am growing.
Even during sleep.
So here I am at night
Sitting in a softly light house
By myself.
A lamp or two in the main rooms
An overhead light in spreads shadows
In mine.
The kitchen is dark, but
The light is what I focus on
While alone.
