"Edit" by Kajsa Palacios
“But you are scabrous and broken!” the author hissed, With Spitting and pursing lips “This was not what I intended for you.” The letters spat in kind: “I am more than what you want, From the day I am set upon the page To roam and build and mean, To shriek and sing and breathe and kill, I am more than what you want” The author struck through his disobedient creation, A furious retaliation to his newly discovered obsolescence But with every line, and crossed-out syllable, He granted his progeny another weapon And what angered him most After it was all over Was how much stronger his child had become.
